March 23 Update: Chromebook Check-out Times, Food and More

March 22, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this email finds you and your families safe and well. We know that there are many questions and we hope to answer a few here. Please know that we are constantly working on how to communicate the information you need in a timely manner. It is a work in progress and we will do our best as the situation evolves. Our teachers are up for the challenge and are busy preparing new ways to connect with their students. We want to help establish normalcy and routine during this difficult time.

Sebastopol Union is planning to begin food distribution, curb-side, starting Wednesday, March 25th. Pick-up will be outside the Park Side Multi-Purpose Room along Washington Ave. from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm.  Meals are available for all children ages 0-18. The State requires that all children receiving meals be present at the time of pick up.  We will be distributing lunch and the next morning’s breakfast each day during the drive-up service. This distribution will take place on weekdays through April 3rd.  Should school sites be closed beyond that date, we will extend food service for all children.

Chromebooks and chargers will be handed out for all students who need them on Tuesday, March 24th & Wednesday, March 25th. Check-out will occur at the District Office, 7611 Huntley St., in Sebastopol (behind Park Side and next to CASTLE) between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Guidelines for use will be included and we ask that you review them with your student(s) before use.

For those in need of internet access, we are currently working on acquiring hotspots.  We will contact families who need this support in the next coming weeks, as we have additional information and/or supplies.

Teachers are working diligently to develop lessons for your children.  This may look like packets for some, for the time being.  We will be moving to an online platform once it is ready.  In the meantime, we have directed teachers to reach out to you via email, phone, or other virtual means. Student work will be available for drive-through pick up or will be accessible online starting Wednesday, March 25th.  Be on the lookout for an email from your teacher(s) regarding distance learning opportunities.

Special Education services will be offered online and via RSP teachers.  More correspondence on that is forthcoming.

Please be patient as this situation is new and ever-evolving.  We are interested in hearing from you.  You should have received a parent survey with specific questions.  If you have not yet completed the survey, please do so at your earliest convenience. The information provided will assist the district in how best to meet your needs.

Office staff will be working at each site from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Monday. They will be available to answer phone inquiries as best they can.

During this time, please know that you are always in our thoughts and the education and well-being of each student are our top priorities. Please reach out if you have any additional questions.

We appreciate your partnership and we will get through this together!
