Along with other schools in Sebastopol, Park Side partners with Sebastopol Rotary to provide FREE potentially lifesaving training to students at a pivotal time (right before summer water events!). We need our community helpers to ensure a successful year of teaching our sweet second graders basic water and/or swimming skills. Whether you love working with kids or just love having fun in the pool, we need you. Volunteers will teach basic swimming skills (ie. hold your breath, put your ear in the pool, can you float?). No experience is required. Training will be provided so that volunteers feel comfortable teaching in the pool. All classes will take place:

APRIL 20, 2026 to MAY 13, 2026

For optimal results, volunteers are asked to teach two times a week for the four week program. We understand that it may be difficult for some volunteers to commit, so Rotary is open to creative arrangements. For example, two volunteers could share a spot. Rotary will also try to have substitute instructors. They will work with you! 

** This is VERY basic swim but Rotary does not have enough volunteers to support all of the schools, and schools are asked to find their own volunteers. If we don't provide volunteers from our school community, this year's incredibly vital program will be cancelled for Park Side. The more volunteers, the more likely we can split committed days. For water safety instruction, each 2nd grade class requires 1 full time volunteer per group of 3 students - approximately 15 volunteers in total for Park Side's 2nd graders for each swim day.
